Update on the latest Wizard 4D...

23rd September 2010 - By Shahid Banglawala - shahid @ unlimitedrc.co.uk

The model is now finished awaiting testing, despite the fact it's using less than optimum equipment in terms of weight (aileron servo is 10 grams!), heavy leads and generally not built all that light. The finished weight of 148.1 g is right on the money! This is without milling and retaining as much stiffness as a normal Aeromusical model. The pictures tell the rest of the story, the PolyQuest pack being used is currently one of our favourite, being a good compromise between discharge and cost, at a weight of 28 grams. Available from Electricwingman

Rumour has it the next batch of packs will be even lighter. Other options we've tried include the Thunderpower 325 45C discharge packs (weighed at 24g) although this is about £4 more, you can grab these at West London models

Just in the country are the Hyperion G3 cells in 320 size, more info when we try them...in the meantime the pictures below tell the rest of the story! We reckon with lighter gear we can easily lose upto 5 grams.

A new Wizard!

21st September 2010 - By Shahid Banglawala - shahid @ unlimitedrc.co.uk

Having dabbled in 4D/VPP flying for a while we decided we wanted to try something a little different. Taking inspiration from some Japanese models and throwing in a very late night we came up with the new Wizard 4D.

In contrast to the last Wizard 4D, this isn't just a normal Wizard SE with a 4D unit bolted on but an actual optimised for 4D design. You can see the use of different materials, instead of just all depron, plus one or two other mods. Given the sub 50 gram airframe-only weight, we're hoping for a sub 150 gram weight RTF with the Axi 2203/40 VPP, and that's WITHOUT milling or sacrificing any stiffness...

Testing commences this Saturday so we will try and crack the video camera out ;)

I also hope to be updating the site over the coming months a little with some better info pages on our designs and such, if you have any suggestions at all then don't hesitate to get in touch

Spinner for the Mamo VPP unit

7th September 2010 - By Shahid Banglawala - shahid @ unlimitedrc.co.uk

As I'm sure you know Simon and I have been playing about with 4D flying. This is all well said and done, but the problem we've been having is after impacting the floor, the forward most part of the Mamo unit is getting a bit damaged and distorted. So to safeguard the front of the unit from damage I've devised a very easy to make and simple spinner that seems to work well.

To make the spinner you'll need some 5-minute epoxy; some polystyrene foam (though any suitable substitute will work); a small GRP disc (I used a wheel off a Wizard) and a small self tapping screw. First the screw is glued though a central hole in the GRP disc, without getting epoxy on the threads, then a block of foam is glued over this and sanded to shape. Voila...spinner done. Just thread this into the small 2mm diameter hole in the front of the Mamo and you have a spinner. If you don't have GRP then any hard material such as ply etc could work too.

Pictures explain things better so check it out below:

European F3A championship results

5th September 2010 - By Shahid Banglawala - shahid @ unlimitedrc.co.uk

The results of the 15th European F3A champs are in, held this year in Kapfenburg, Austria the championships are a good indicator of the form of pilots before the worlds the following year. All eyes were on Gerhard Mayr this year as he turned up with another interesting design (pictured below), pipped to win Gerhard didn't quite do that but still finished in a more than respectable second...to none other than CPLR! Sebart completed the podium in third and at some stages of the event was leading the pack.

Full results and pictures can be found at the championships home page www.f3a-ec.at

Wizard 4D flown at BMFA Nationals 2010

2nd September 2010 - By Shahid Banglawala - shahid @ unlimitedrc.co.uk

I could only get down for the day but thought it prudent to crack out an underpowered 4D model at the nationals and attempt some 4D flip flop...enjoy the vid!

Welcome to a brand new Unlimited-RC!!!

1st September 2010 - By Shahid Banglawala - shahid @ unlimitedrc.co.uk

Well folks it's been a while since anything has happened here, but a few months ago it occured to me I was paying hosting fees for nothing at all. Going back into RC retail wasn't really a viable option having witnessed first hand the horrors that the industry had to offer so...instead I teamed up with a very good friend of mine and we present to you...the new URC!

Put simply it's a blog site, but without the self-loving dribble or without opinions no one gives a damn about. Instead we bring you RC news from around the globe, whether it's new products from manufacturers, quirky forum banter or competition results...the chances are if we're doing our job it should be here on these pages!

At the time of writing the European F3A champs are well underway, we've been dabbling with 4D flying and I've got a shocky to fix so...

...here's to the rest of 2010 and beyond if the wife doesn't kick us out for leaving lipos in the dog bowl again:
